The best quality of lights is very essential in the decorating scheme that you want for your house. When light is placed wisely, it can serve as architecture as it separates furniture groupings and defines and changes spaces. In the finest homes, lighting is broken down into four categories:

1) Task lighting – This is your reading, sewing, cooking light.

2) Highlighting – The special-effect lights especially used for spotlighting art or specific furniture.
3) Background lighting – Diffuse, shadowy, atmospheric lights behind valances or cornices or in recessed fixtures in the ceiling.
4) Status lighting- Crystal chandeliers, exotic and costly urns transformed into lamps, era originals (Art Deco or Art Nouveau forms, for example). Chandeliers are preferred to be big, as small, dinky chandeliers are often cheap looking.
