The Japanese design sends a message of nuances by leaving something unfinished or unsaid of what is not fully revealed where the observer is forced to finish it himself to complete the idea. The incompletion sustains interest and never becomes dull.

The rooms, artwork and gardens have space; everything has a part that seems fraught with meaning even though it is not crammed full with color and objects. An example is a few branches in a corner of a painting that may convey the sense of a whole tree. The suggested rather than the obvious is deeply Japanese.

Another Japanese technique is Shibui – which is a profound beauty word in any language. It means restraint, understatement and quiet. It means that the less powerful thing maybe the more effective. An example of which is a garden made only with eleven rocks and raked gravel. At first sight, you wonder where the flowers and herb plantings are. A closer look and you want to sit in the rock and gravel garden for a longer time.
